Some New Ones from 2014

July of 2014 was cooler than normal; that, combined with adequate moisture, helped cannas make a spectacular display. August was a bit warmer than normal and did require watering. If it is too hot, blooms can sometimes get scorched, so I am hoping for another mild July.

Here are some pics of newer ones, or ones that showed especially well.

Cannas of the year were the classic Rosamond Cole (virus free) and Whithelm's Pride.

Rosamond Cole is 3-4 feet tall with striking bicolor blooms.

Whithelm's Pride is 5-6 feet tall with huge salmon rose blooms.

Olivia is a shorter canna, a strong rose with leaves that have some purplish tones.

Orange Punch is a strong orange, heavy blooming with pendulous flowers, about 4-5 feet tall.

Richard Rehig is similar to Pollygay--a striking red with yellow edges. Flowers are less pendulous, and Richard Rehig is a slightly taller plant (6 feet)

Divine Pink is a tall, large-flowered dark pink. About 6 feet tall.

Caribbean Sunset showed itself well (not new for 2014, though). About 3-4 feet tall.

Tropical Salmon was an excellent pot subject.

Strawberry Delight was as prolific as ever.

Hotsie Totsie (2-3 feet) was lushly floriferous.

Femme Fatale (3 feet) thrived.

Fantastic Red is a brilliant shade and heavy blooming (3-4 feet tall).
